Hello[edit source]

While Xerozohar is indisposed, I'll be filling in for him here. Unfortunately, this came up on a holiday weekend, so anything related to the data imports will probably have to wait until Tuesday. I also have some other work to wrap up before I can get started, but at the very least, you could help me out by catching me up on anything that you need help correcting, fixing, or updating so I can start planning any work in the days ahead. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 00:31, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Ah, I see. Well, right now the thing that really needs to be fixed and updated in the Items pages. Their layout and information is pretty outdated (the upgrade system displayed hasn't existed for a good while now.). But right now there is another issue that'd prevent us from putting too much effort in updating the pages: This game is bound to get a major update soon, and "almost nothing will be left unaffected" by it (which means that putting too much effort in updating the item pages now could potentially be a waste). Still, atleast fixing up the templates a bit to be current would probably save me some time.--Malvodion (talk) 00:45, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
I will need to confer with our import guy on that, so sadly that will have to wait until they're back in the office on Tuesday. Apologies for the inconvenience. If you think of anything else that could use some help, please let me know. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 13:38, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
Not much I suppose, beyond fixing up the infobox template (I'm not really sure how this one works) Template:Item_infobox.--Malvodion (talk) 14:44, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
I just found out our import guy is unavailable for the next couple of days. I really do apologize for the inconvenience, but there's little I can do until he has a chance to look into items for me. I'll start on this as soon as I get the information I need, though. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 20:57, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
I've discussed this some with the import guy. He should be looking into the issues soon. I'll keep you posted as I hear back. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 21:15, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
I'm very sorry for all the delays on this, and I don't want to have you to keep you waiting. I fear our import guy is pretty backed up, though, so I've thought this over some, and maybe with some more specifics, I can at least get started on this even without knowing about data changes in the game. I could probably at least hide anything old and outdated in the infobox until I know what to replace it with. If you could give me a specific list of things that need to be changed, I could at least get that much done. You see, I really only know this game from the data I saw when helping to set up the original import. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 17:49, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
I see. The problem here is, I too lack this sort of knowledge (I only really play this game now and then.), which is the main reason why I asked for help. I'm hoping that with a good cleanup, and the upcoming update they are getting, that we might get to promote the wiki a bit, to get the community involved (and add a bit of life into this thing.). This is the official wiki, isn't it? So you most likely have atleast a small conection with the company developing this game. You should consider doing something to promote eachother (if it's not more trouble than what its worth for Curse, that is.), kind of like when Curse was promoting Smite when you were sponsoring their grand tournament, but on a much minor scale.--Malvodion (talk) 00:40, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Ah, I see. And before I look into any addtional promotion, I'd much rather have any import issues sorted out. I guess I'll continue to wait for the information I need regarding the game data and simply try to jump onto it as soon as possible. Afterwards, I'll look into what we can for better wiki promotion. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 01:29, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Okay, a lot of small fixes in a short time here. I think we're good on the item infobox and Items page now.
  • On the items page, we had to switch to using filters because the missing item types are actually in the game data itself. As a bit of a patch, I hacked in adding type to the filters so the items without a data page (which no one has added filters to) will hopefully still show up, but in some cases, filters might need to be added to the infobox manually.
  • The quality slider has been removed from the infoboxes because it's no longer relevant.
  • Reformatted power, health, and mana so they display in a more helpful fashion and only show up when there's something nonzero in them. Looks like in some places, though, the value given is going to have to be changed. It expects to either get just one number (like the base power), or two numbers like this: 10,1 (the base power and the power per charge, or health or mana).
  • The enchantments header should only now display if there are actually enchantments to show.
  • Alignment issue with a couple fields has been fixed.
  • Also, a fresh import was done just a few hours ago.
I'm going to ask our community manager about what kind of promotion we might be able to do tomorrow. It might take a while to hear back on that since we may have to wait for a response from the devs, but I'll at least try to get the ball rolling now that I think we're good on the import issues. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 01:59, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Ah perfect. Everything seems to be workign correctly on the item pages. The only thing I noticed not working correctly is the Hero infoboxes, which still try to display armor and magic res. instead of the new defensive stats, and the page for the new familiar, Fiki, seems to be having issues displaying one of its abilities (I remember this happening to one of the other pet pages.). And you should consider targeting things like the game's subreddit among other things, since we are now officialy the most complete of the two strife wikis, and we have the info from the latest update aswell (Well, minus the images for the new characters and their quotes, which I'll be adding in a moment.).--Malvodion (talk) 04:58, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Mmm, no wait. The item pages still need to be manually cleaned up to make them consistent, and to update other bits of info that aren't part of the templates. This will take time.--Malvodion (talk) 05:04, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Alright, I'll hold off on any promotion talk and see if we can look into hero data tomorrow. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 07:01, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

The main page[edit source]

Unfortunately, this wiki has suffered some from being switched between managers too frequently, and the main page in particular is showing some of this. In the three column view, we end up with a middle column with little going on, and game related links got shoehorned that's meant to be mostly for wiki-related pages instead of new boxes being added for them. In the one and two-columns, the heroes and familiars, probably among the more important pages and the most visually-interesting links, are getting pushed down. Some people might not even see them without scrolling down.

There are two options I'd like you to consider:

  • The first and simplest option is keep the current design, but just reorganize the content, dividing it into more appropriate boxes, perhaps possibly add some icons next to things like the item and ability links. Basically, this would just be making the current design work as it was actually intended to work.
  • I've been experimenting with a new main page layout on Massive Chalice Wiki. Obviously it doesn't have images yet (other wikis have taken a higher priority, so I haven't had time to finish it). Some boxes we probably won't have. (I don't think there's any official RSS news feed for us to use for a News box, and we might not want to do both Featured Images and Videos depending on how things get laid out.) This is less quick because hero and familiar images will have to be cropped and resized again since this design is intended for larger images (though the link boxes wouldn't necessarily have to be square).

Once we decide what direction to go on things, I can probably work on this sometime during the next week. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig.png 22:24, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I knew the front was kind of... "unpolished", but I didn't want to toy with it too much when I barely understood how it worked. That design you made for the other wiki looks pretty nice, a much better layout than the current. I think something like that could work well for this wiki, but probably without any video/artwork sections (well, maybe a section for the game's trailer, for whenever they release a new one.). Having to re-create the images and content will be a pain, but it can't be helped.--Malvodion (talk) 23:32, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
